Update June 30, 2022:
Registration has now finished. We will start collecting names for the 2023/2024 academic year in January 2023. Please check our website again at that time.
Registration for Year 1 (Preparatory)
Siblings of children already at RICE receive priority. In May, we invite continuing families and new families interested in having their child join Year 1, to come for a Place Assessment. The Place Assessment covers English, Math and Amharic. A child must pass the Place Assessment. Where the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces, allocation to Year 1 will be given according to priority placement and the marks scored in the Place Assessment.
Registration for Year 2 upwards (Grade 1 upwards)
In May, current families are asked to make a commitment for the following school year. This helps us to see what spaces we will have available. Depending on where spaces are available we begin to invite new families to bring their child for a Place Assessment. The Place Assessment covers English, Math and Amharic. A child must pass the Place Assessment. Where the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces, allocation will be given according to priority placement and the marks scored in the Place Assessment.

- Students requiring placement two or more years either below or above the Year recommended for their age will not usually be accepted. The table below provides a guide used to determine the appropriate age for any given Year.
- Successful applicants are normally admitted to RICE at the beginning of the school year. Students will only be accepted after this in exceptional circumstances.
- Successful applicants will be expected to pay a 16% Place Reservation deposit once the Application Form has been approved. This represents the first 16% of the annual tuition fee and is non-refundable. Failure to pay the Place Reservation deposit will mean the child’s place may be offered to another family.
- For the purpose of maintaining quality education in the classroom, RICE limits class sizes respective to the physical space in a classroom. The maximum class size for any Year is ideally 24 students per class.
